Our co-production vision

Our co-production vision

Welcome to the ADASS Co-production Vision. It’s our commitment to making co-production part of ADASS culture—starting from where we are, and working together to go further. It has been shaped by the voices of people with lived experience, ADASS staff, trustees and members, and colleagues in ADASS regions. You’ll see that it’s built to grow: rooted in shared values, full of practical steps, and open to challenge and change. We’re proud to share it—and we’re excited to keep building it with you. We want to say a big thank you Think Local Act Personal and the National Co-production Advisory Group who have co-produced this Vision with us.

Co-production is a way of working where people come together as equals to share ideas, make decisions and create things that work for everyone.

This can include people who draw on care and support, carers and people who work in social care. It’s based on the ideas that those who access a service are best placed to design it.

We’ll put co-production at the heart of our team culture by acting in ways that support working together.

We’ll take simple, sensible steps to make this happen – working alongside a wide range of people and making sure their views shape what we do. We’ll turn ideas into real change, learning and improving as we go.

ADASS will champion co-production across our membership – using our networks to listen, learn, and support different approaches. We will work to get better at sharing and using ideas, but we know this takes time – everyone’s at a different stage in their co-production journey.

ADASS will champion meaningful collaboration as a cornerstone of adult social care, advocating to Government and decision makers the importance of creating the right conditions for co-production in national policy. We will align our messaging with leading co-production organisations to amplify our collective voice and are recognised by them as a trusted partner.

What next?

Watch former ADASS President, Beverley Tarka, talk about what is next for the ADASS co-production vision.

A huge number of exciting ideas for closer work with people with lived experience came from the creation of this Vision. This covered innovative ways to further promote the voice of lived experience, from speaking at events to co-producing policy positions. We talked about how co-production could play a bigger role in influencing, in media opportunities and communications. We’ve started thinking about how we could embed co-production into our membership offer and how to use our platform to promote the message that co-production is essential to high quality and sustainable social care.

In fact….far too many ideas for us to be able to action! The ADASS Co-production Vision Steering Group has agreed that ADASS will undertake an annual review of these ideas to prioritise the ones we want to take forward next.

If you want to hear more about this review process or anything else about the ADASS Co-production Vision, please get in touch with team@adass.org.uk

Our recipe for co-production

We’ve used staff surveys and an in-person workshop to capture the team’s goals for co-production and what would help us reach these goals (also called enablers).

These ‘enablers’ are pieces of work the team have identified will support embedding co-production in ADASS, making it more sustainable in the long-term.

We’re calling these enablers our ‘co-production recipe’.

These won’t be implemented overnight – they are milestones for us to work towards and shape our actions in the shorter term.
