Our Policy Priorities
As a charity, ADASS seeks to influence policies, decision makers and public discourse that could help to transform the lives of people needing and providing care.
ADASS commissioned an independent report entitled Time to Act: A Roadmap for Reforming Care and Support in England that identified 10 ‘Areas for action’ to help us get the fairer care system we want and need over the next 10 years.
It was widely welcomed by those working in and drawing on care and support, and ADASS has since selected three key areas on which to focus its policy advocacy efforts: the social care workforce; carers; and care closer to home, and early support.
Building on these priorities, ADASS set out a series of asks when the general election 2024 was called. These are two, five and 10-year actions that we asked the main political parties and key decisionmakers to consider, both in terms of listening and supporting, during the election campaign.
Workforce
ADASS advocates for a vibrant, diverse and skilled social care workforce that supports people to live the lives they want, in their own communities. ADASS calls for the resources needed to enable competitive pay, good terms and conditions, and career progression for all levels of social care roles.
Carers
ADASS seeks to move from a situation in which too many people are being forced to care for their loved ones out of necessity, and do so without the financial, practical or emotional support they need.
Early support and care closer to home
ADASS recognises that early support and care closer to home are vital to ensure people remain well and independent for as long as possible.
