In response to Skills for Care’s ‘The state of the adult social care sector and workforce in England’ report for 2025, ADASS President, Jess McGregor said:

“While it’s encouraging the workforce has grown, this is due to a reliance on international recruitment. With the care worker visa route now closing, combined with a decline in domestic workers, ADASS members, providers and many older and disabled people are understandably worried about who will support them.

“While we do need to increase the recruitment of new care workers, we also need to ensure we retain the workers we have through training and career progression. We welcome the Fair Pay Agreement but have warned the Government must commit to fully funding it, or risk destabilising councils and care providers to the detriment of those people who draw on care and support.”
