In response to the Government’s 10-Year Health Plan, Jess McGregor, President of ADASS said:

“We know the needs of people are best met or prevented from escalating when health and social care work together closely in local areas, so we are pleased the Government’s 10-year plan places a clear emphasis on local decision making and joint working through health and wellbeing boards.

“We welcome the Plan’s direction of travel on elements such as giving more power to patients and building services round them, building single integrated care records, investing and valuing the voluntary sector more, and building the NHS as a stronger partner in local public service landscapes. We now look forward to hearing more about how this will happen.

“It’s vital that adult social care leaders, who are well versed in delivering support at the community level, are meaningfully involved in decisions about where and how resources for neighbourhood health and care are allocated and spent to achieve best outcomes for people. Councils are already doing much of this work and drawing on our members experience will be key to supporting people to remain independent at home for as long as possible, preventing pressure on hospital services and making the neighbourhood health ambition a success.”
