In January 2025, ADASS responded to the call for evidence from the Government’s Independent Sentencing Review led by David Gauke, and the House of Commons Justice Committee inquiry on rehabilitation resettlement of offenders.

The submissions focused upon the concerns arising from ADASS members’ duties of social care to people in prison, and the support to victims and families of offenders in the community in the 2023 ADASS Spring Survey. Positive measures were put to reform sentencing, rehabilitation of offenders and the Probation Service to focus upon prevention and reduction of reoffending through investment in localised services. The sentencing review is due to report in spring 2025 and the Justice Committee has started hearings.
