n response to a report on the conclusion of the Norfolk Safeguarding Adult Review of Cawston Park Hospital, Stephen Chandler, President of the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services, said:

“ADASS welcomes this report and its shocking findings and recommendations. The report lays bare the hospital’s failings of the people in its care. Our thoughts are with the families of the young people who have needlessly lost their lives.

“Sadly, this is yet another truly devastating case in which young people with learning disabilities or autism have experienced intolerable neglect, abuse and died as a result of the action of those who were supposed to be providing care and support . This is not the first such case, and it must trigger fundamental changes to the way care is commissioned and experienced. Government is poised for social care reform, we urge them to translate these recommendations into their proposals. The vital lessons from this report must be learnt.”
