In response to the publication of the review into the operational effectiveness of the Care Quality Commission, Anna Hemmings, CEO of ADASS said:

“Health and social care services need strong, credible regulation, so we welcome these reports’ recommendations to ensure the CQC effectively provides this.

“We support the delay to the ICS assessment to allow the CQC to focus on improving the existing areas of regulation such as the inspection and reinspection of care providers to rebuild trust with providers, councils and the public.  We continue to work closely with the CQC to improve and refine the assessment of local authority social care departments.

“Given the reduced number of inspections and reinspections carried out by CQC, we ask Government to provide councils with short-term funding to support the quality assurance work they’ve undertaken within their local social care services to ensure that they are providing people with safe, effective, compassionate and high-quality care.  We also ask that DHSC works with ADASS and care provider representative bodies to provide advice on how best to provide quality assurance in 2025/26 whilst CQC continues to improve.”
