North East ADASS brings together our 12 Directors of Adult Social Care.

As Directors we are committed to identifying and working towards common strategic priorities to bring long term and sustainable improvement, being innovative and working collaboratively to improve services across our region via Sector Led Improvement (SLI) activities and partnership working to support integrated health and care systems for the benefits of our population.

The North East region has an adult population of approximately 2.6 million and is made up of twelve unitary Local Authorities: Darlington, Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle, Sunderland, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Northumberland, Hartlepool, Redcar and Cleveland, Stockton and Middlesbrough.

The composition of Local Authorities in the North East differs greatly. We have geographically large County Councils covering significant rural areas with populations of over 500,000 people. Alternatively, we also have small urban Borough and Metropolitan Councils with populations of approximately 90,000. This creates different challenges and opportunities across the region.
