NEW ADASS PRESIDENT: SOCIAL JUSTICE AND INCLUSION MUST BE OUR GUIDING PRINCIPLES

James Bullion has today taken up the Presidency of the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS).

Speaking to ADASS members at the charity’s first ever virtual AGM, James Bullion set out his assessment of the challenges facing adult social care as it tackles Covid-19, and his vision for shaping the longer-term future of adult social care.

James committed to putting social justice and inclusion at the heart of his Presidency, both in our approach to Covid-19 and in shaping the future of social care.

He said:

“We should fight for equality of outcomes; whether for the Black and Minority Ethnic people hit harder by this pandemic, for the prisoners in permanent lock down, for the increased number of people affected by abuse, for rough sleepers who are so excluded and so much more at risk. Life can be very short but its precious. We and our social workers should focus on freedom, independence, on safeguarding, on prevention, on good advice: so that we support good lives, and give dignity and respect.”
