Tackling Child Sexual Exploitation

Main Participants:

Council efforts to tackle child sexual exploitation have been thrown sharply into the spotlight following the publication of Alexis Jay’s inquiry into historic failings in Rotherham Borough Council. It is clear that this awful crime is not constrained by any limited of culture, class or geography, and all councils must take proactive action to address this issue head on. The session will consider how councils are already working in partnership with the police and others to tackle child sexual exploitation locally, with a particular focus on the crucial leadership role of Directors, Chief Executives and Councillors. Delegates will hear from a arrange of speakers, including the integrated Project Phoenix approach operating across Greater Manchester, and the session will be a valuable opportunity for senior leaders to assess their local approaches in light of experiences from around the country.
