Better Care Technology
Chair: Linda Sanders, ADASS Telecare Lead
Peter Hay, Strategic Director for Adults and Communities, Birmingham City Council
Joy Hollister, Group Director, Children, Adults and Housing, London Borough of Havering
Kevin Alderson, Public Sector Policy Director, Tunstall Healthcare
Many local authorities and CCGs have included telecare within their Better Care Fund plans, as an effective tool for driving integration and improving outcomes for people with care and support needs. But what is the secret to successful telecare implementation, and what are the real benefits?
will reveal the experiences of two of the UK’s most successful technology
enabled care services:
Hay will describe how a large-scale commitment to telecare across Birmingham is
yielding large scale results, with improved quality of care and better outcomes
for thousands of people, and significant financial efficiencies.
Joy Hollister will outline how Havering’s offer of free telecare for everyone over 80 and focus on reablement resulted in over 3,000 people benefitting from increased independence, significantly reduced admissions to residential care and £5m efficiency savings.
Linda Sanders will then announce the results of the ADASS Better Care Technology online member survey, which was undertaken to create an independent picture of telecare service delivery across the UK for the first time. This work aims to generate further momentum for telehealthcare, and will lead to the creation of a number of practical tools to help authorities realise the potential of technology enabled care services.
The session will also provide the opportunity to see the latest generation of telehealthcare solutions designed to support people living in residential care:
- an intuitive suite of applications designed to support social inclusion via
an easy to use touch screen tablet
• myclinic - a multi-user telehealth monitoring system aimed to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions or GP visits
The workshop will conclude with a discussion about the barriers and opportunities presented by Better Care Technology.
