A place I call home: beyond the scandal of Winterbourne View

Chair: Andrea Pope-Smith

Main Participants:

Jon Rouse, Gavin Harding, Zandrea Stewart, Hazel Watson (TBC)

Providing an effective local response to Winterbourne View remains a significant and high profile priority and challenge for local areas and local leaders.  It is an issue that cuts across both adult and children's services, and across local government and health.  This joint ADASS / DH / JIP session will explore the on-going challenges in ensuring individuals with a learning disability and / or autism and challenging behaviour have the care and support they need to live fulfilling and safe lives in their communities.  The session will have a practical 'how to' focus, containing examples of innovative practice and robust plans, both locally and regionally, to usefully inform attendees' work in their own authorities.  The session will also concentrate on audience participation and discussion in order to share innovation, and to aid progress on the key issues.
