Both Associations have expressed considerable concern to both government and the Health Professionals Council concerning the rise in registration fees for social workers when HPC takes over from the GSCC. In a statement, Dave Hill and Jo Cleary, respectively ADCS Lead on Social Work Reform and Joint Chair of the ADASS Workforce Development Network, said they understand how social workers are feeling, and sympathise with the additional financial burden being placed on them at this particular belt-tightening time.

It is, however, a decision to be made by individual employers whether or not to provide support to their social work staff on registration fees, although we recall that when registration was introduced by the GSCC, it was handled well by employers.

Both our Associations are working with the HPC and GSCC to help ensure that a similarly effective outcome can be ensured in this instance, they said.
