All you need to know about social care: Facts, figures and the challenges to come
Association of Directors of Adult Social Services
Date: Monday, April 26 2010
Directors of adult social services today launch an information booklet outlining the facts, figures and achievements of local authority adult social care departments, as well as listing some of the challenges they and the people they serve face in the coming decade.
As well, the booklet examines the current policy framework that those services operate within, the key issues that directors in England are grappling with on a daily basis, as well as a special section on social care funding in the light of this months White Paper, and the Personal Care at Home Bill.
Written by ADASS Associates Network joint chair Richard Humphries, who is also a senior fellow at the Kings Fund, the factfile is due to be distributed to prospective parliamentary candidates in England this week, in time, according to ADASS President Richard Jones "to put social care at the centre of local debate."
He went on: "we have all been encouraged at the high profile these important matters have achieved in the first four months of this year, and we have all had an excellent chance to see and hear them debated by politicians at the highest level during the course of the election debate.
"I sincerely hope that this booklet will help inform the debate locally and nationally, and will help and encourage candidates to focus their parties position on the facts of the case and the services as they are delivered. The important challenge will be to maintain the momentum we have seen develop during the course of the past six months, and find solutions to some of the difficult problems which, at a difficult time in our economic life, remain to be solved."
The booklet can be downloaded from the ADASS website.
