Date: Tuesday, July 20 2010

ADASS has welcomed the appointment of Maurice Bates and Professor Corinne May-Chahal as interim joint chairs of the College of Social Work. According to President Richard Jones, "Maurice, with his in-depth understanding of what works in a social services department, and Corinne, with the enviable reputation she brings with her from academe, will contribute to the role the wisdom and experience they have gained from two vitally important areas of the social care sector.

"Maurice, who has had lengthy first-line experience of managing children's and adults' services, as well as long experience as joint chair of the ADSS workforce committee, will bring that element of sound practical common sense to the task that has stood him so well both in his Association role, as well as in his work with Redcar and Cleveland.

"This will be aptly complemented by Corinne's substantial experience of statutory, voluntary and further and higher education sectors gained over 34 years engagement with social work."

Wishing them well with their task, Richard also expressed his thanks to Allan Bowman for the hard work he has put into chairing the College Development Group prior to these appointments.
