Directors of adult social services have reacted positively to the setting up of the new Commission on the Funding of Care and Support for adults. News that two former directors Dame Jo Williams and Lord Warner - will serve the Commission chair Andrew Dilnot, was said to be `particularly welcome by ADASS president Richard Jones.

According to Mr Jones: "This Commission has been charged with producing a solution to one of the ages most complicated and intractable problems how we can proceed to fund social care for a growing number of elderly people, people with learning and physical disabilities, and mental health issues in an increasingly inclement economic climate.

"Having two distinguished and independent former members of our Association already chosen to help is a great bonus, and we very much look forward to the contributions they will make."

He ended: "There are still issues concerning the full and final terms of reference to be decided. But meanwhile we wish the new chair, and his new Commissioners, well in the difficult and demanding task they face. ADASS will be providing our own evidence to the Commission, and will be pleased to help it in its deliberations in any way we can"
