Responding to the Mental Health taskforce report, Ray James, President of the Association of Adult Social Services Directors, said:

“Good mental health is a vital part of a person’s wellbeing, and the work of the Mental Health Taskforce, along with the announcement of more than a billion pounds of additional funding each year towards NHS mental health services by 2020/21, makes valuable strides towards giving mental healthcare the same recognition as physical healthcare.

“However, it’s vital that the importance of non-NHS services, including social care, is also recognised for its important role in preventing mental illness, helping recovery, and sustaining wellbeing. The adult social care sector continues to face a difficult financial future, however we will be working closely with all of our partners, including the NHS, to play our part in implementing the Taskforce’s recommendations to improve the wellbeing of our residents.”
