“We very much welcome this report by the CQC which raises awareness of very important aspects of life that are, in particular, often overlooked for older and disabled people. We all know that sexual relationships can be good, and life fulfilling – but also potentially bad, exploitative, and damaging; this is no different for those of us that need care and support.

“It’s so important that everybody, regardless of their age, gender, background or orientation, is appropriately supported to express their sexuality, and form and maintain positive relationships, if they wish to do so, and they must be able to do so in a safe and supportive environment and be properly protected from abuse and harm. Ensuring that everybody is properly safeguarded from abuse and allowing them to live the lives they want to lead is at the centre of all that we do, and this is no exception.

“Collectively it’s vital that we work together to ensure that at one and the same time good relationships can be nurtured and that safeguarding is everyone’s business and that we deal with any risk of or actual abuse and harm whenever it arises."
