ADASS responds to Carers UK report "Carers at Breaking Point"
In response to Carers UK report "Carers at Breaking Point", Julie Ogley, President of the ASsociation of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS) said:
"We welcome this report by Carers UK, which provides us with a helpful insight on the impact that the current system is having on family carers.
"That care cannot be taken for granted and everyone needs a break. The report from Carers UK highlights just how little time carers have – and how little they ask for – just a break to see the doctor themselves for example. We fully support the need for funding to provide this essential support. Last week’s short-term funding announcement was a step in the right direction to stop things getting worse, but much more is needed in terms of long term funding and a long term plan if social care is to really support older and disabled people live better lives and to enable carers the support that they need.”
