ADASS would like to formally congratulate John Powell on his MBE, which was announced last week in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
John was recognised for his service to vulnerable people.
John Powell has made a powerful contribution to the discussions around end of life care, most notably being an early champion of end-of-life care. From being a minority voice on this topic. John campaigned with gusto for it to be accepted as one of the most important issues in care. It is in large part thank to this dogged campaigning that both John and the portfolio enjoy the significant profile that they do today.
Responding to the inclusion on the Queen’s Birthday Honours List of John Powell, who becomes an MBE, Glen Garrod, President of ADASS, said:
“Anyone who knows John will be aware of the passion, dedication and intellect he brings to ensure that people facing the end of their lives are treated with dignity and compassion, and able to live their lives as independently as possible
“This MBE is thoroughly deserved and everyone that is a part of the social care family in this country will join ADASS in congratulating him on this recognition.
“The award rightly recognises John for his service to vulnerable people and those of us who have had the pleasure of working with him know that for many years, it has been them who have inspired him to make the biggest difference he possibly can."
