David Pearson met with the NHS Board in March 2015 to present the first ADASS/ LGA paper with Carolyn Downs the Chief Executive of the LGA entitled Adult Social Care - the service and its role in an integrated system. The purpose of the paper was to provide an overview of adult social care; the offer in an integrated system and discuss how the NHS and local government can best work together.
David focused his comments on the impact of the new Care Act, the implications for the social care workforce and challenge for social care in the future.
He emphasised the value of social care to individuals and the economy. Falling resources and challenged funding aside, social care makes a tremendous contribution by being continuous, joined up and personal.
Carolyn Downs CE LGA brought home the challenge to address the £4.3 billion gap. Carolyn emphasised the key messages to strengthen health and wellbeing boards through closer working with providers and local leadership for better commissioning and integration.
