Francis - Government response to be considered in relation to all health and social care services

As the Government prepares to publish its response to the Francis Report into events at mid-Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust, directors of adult social services have promised to play their part in addressing the issues highlighted in the report – “a report which must be considered not only beyond mid Staffs in the wider NHS but in relation to all health and social care services delivered in all settings right across the country,” according to ADASS President Sarah Pickup.

The following notice was issued jointly by the Department of Health, ADASS, and the NHS Commissioning Board to ADASS members earlier today:

The owners of Castlebeck have today announced that the company is going into administration. This note is to provide you with some information on the process that we expect will follow. Administrators will begin a planned process, seeking buyers for the 16 Castlebeck facilities and whether or not buyers are found for all the facilities, the ongoing care of patients and residents will be the priority and Castlebeck and the administrators are committed to working with local commissioners to ensure safe transfer ownership of facilities and continuity of care for individuals.
