THE MAJOR ANNUAL EVENT FOR ALL INVOLVED IN SOCIAL CARE AND EDUCATION

19th to 21st October 2005
Hilton Birmingham Metropole, NEC

Full details can be found at www.lga.gov.uk/nssc

Speeches and Presentations

The theme of the conference was ‘Changing Lives, Building Futures’.  The event was jointly organised by the ADSS and the LGA.

For the most vulnerable in our communities social care and educational achievement are fundamental to supporting and enabling success.  As we move into the 21st century the rapid pace of change continues, driven by the needs and aspirations of the communities that we serve as well as government policy.  Out key challenge is to build strong connections with our service users, our citizens and our communities.

The conference was an opportunity to consider issues of community engagement, education, outcome-focused services, social care, choice, lifelong learning, innovation and excellence in service provision.  Underpinning this work and a key theme for this conference was building and supporting the staff that will deliver these services.

Within the main theme of the conference were three strands:

  • services for children and young people including education, early years, school attainment, 14-19 and Tomlinson and social care

  • services for adults including adult social care and lifelong learning

  • Building Connections, an integrated approach to work with children, young people, adults and families

Exhibition

A prestigious exhibition with over 100 organisations took place in conjunction with the conference.  The exhibition is a major lobbying forum for suppliers, pressure groups and voluntary organisations.

Webcasting

Once again, the main sessions from the conference were webcast live on the Community Care website.  There was an opportunity to send questions by email for the sessions - both prior to the conference and live during the sessions.  The webcasts will be available for viewing for six months following the conference.
