National Social Services Conference 2002 THE MAJOR ANNUAL CONFERENCE FOR THOSE INVOLVED IN SOCIAL CARE

This event was run jointly by the Association of Directors of Social Services and the Local Government Association (www.lga.gov.uk).

The theme for this years event was Diversity.  Policy sessions focussed on: managing the diverse nature of the social care client base; the diversity of best practice across the sector; the diverse demands placed on social work professionals by central and local government and the public at large.

Representatives of the leading political parties presented plenary sessions.  The conference also included keynote addresses by European Commissioner, the Rt Hon Neil Kinnock and Simon Weston, tireless campaigner and founder of Weston Spirit.

The results of a programme of research commissioned by the ADSS from leading independent research group I.P.P.R was also presented.

The usual exhibition of 100 plus organisations, a wide variety of fringe meetings and social events, including the conference social event on the 17th October, completed the programme offering networking and lobbying opportunities.
